Remember the Steps diligently for YOGA & Kshema

YOGA & KSHEMA
  • These are the oft repeated/ heard words in Indian texts/ conversations.
  • Bhagavad Geeta has a verse saying, Yoga Kshemam Vahaamyaham. (God shall ensure these two, for the sincere and dedicated follower).
  •  Let us know some plain facts about them:
(This narration is Based on the Gist of Sri Ganapati Sachchindanda Swamiji's speech, upon Arrival at SGS Ashrama, after the 106th Foreign Trip on 10th August 2010)

  • Most of us have reached/ attained a position in life. Or in the process of getting it. Be it our Profession/ Education/ Relationship etc. This is called YOGA. To attain something hitherto unpossessed is the etymological meaning of YOGA.
  • Ofcourse, we will continue to aspire for the continuation of the position/ status, without saying. This is the Kshema. (To continue the ownership of possession be it a an object, or a thought/ wisdom/ health/ relationship is KSHEMA.)
  • Those more industrious, always aspire for more. (That is how, mighty kingdoms, countries, business empires/ conglomerates are formed.)
  •  What ever it is: No one wants to lose a position, (s)he relishes and cherishes. That is the gist of our aspirations.
  • But, there seems/ ought to be room for complacency, when the pinnacle/ stature is achieved, we overlook the factors responsible for this achievement. This has the potential to weaken the position.
  • If we explain some illustrations of achievement:
  1.  A teacher/ professor - Scholarship
  2. Devotee - Dedication and Selfless Thought about GOd
  3. Businessman - Perseverance, Business Acumen
  4. Disciple - Daily Prayers, Adherence to the words of the Guru
  5. Teacher/ Professor - Scholarship
  6. Leader - Constant vigil for opportunities
Similarly, we have innumerable causes for various achievements of life; apart from the common factors, responsible for the achievement such as dedication, sincerity, hard work, luck/ fortune, bodily/ mental ability; agility, perseverance etc.

Hence to retain the attaiment,
  • Let us always remember the steps, that brought us to this stage.
  • Let us continue the practices that helped in the process.
  • Let us not overlook them, as they have the propensity to lead us to higher status and help us in unravelling the misteries of creeping problems.
To Attain is YOGA
To Retain is KSHEMA
